Hi all,

Since the OCAJP8 beta exam was released, you have certifications for different Java versions. So I was wondering if you could combine exams of different versions. And if it is allowed, which certification title/credential you are granted if you pass both OCAJP8 and OCPJP7.

A possible scenario: someone took (and passed) the OCAJP8 (beta) exam and prepares for the OCPJP8 while he's waiting until the beta exam is released. But he's fully prepared before the beta exam is released and don't want to wait anymore, can he take the OCPJP7 exam? And which certification title/credential will be granted if he passes the OCPJP7 exam.

I decided to ask the Oracle Certification Program Team and they didn't had an immediate answer. But after they verified, I got an answer today:

OCP Team wrote:Dear Roel,

Thank you for your patience.

Please note candidates will not be able to combine two different version certifications. If you have earned Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 8 Programmer credential then you passing the Exam 1Z0-804 will not provide you Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 8 Programmer credential.

Regards,
OCP Team

So you can't combine 2 different version certifications. Meaning if you passed OCAJP8 (beta) exam, you can take the OCPJP7 exam. BUT you won't get the Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 7 Programmer credential. You'll only get this credential if you take and pass the OCAJP7 exam as well.

This might be valuable information for people who doubt about taking the OCAJP7 or OCAJP8 exam, and want to become OCPJP certified on the short term as well.

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel
