??? Not getting the reference there, Winston!

Today is also the 75th anniversary of Britain's entry into WWII, which seems to be passing largely unremarked this year.

Indeed. Good spot. Six hours before the French, I might add. Of course it took another six months before we really got involved...

That's unfortunate. We've had some coverage here in Canada, mainly because our Lancaster is flying around the UK with your Lancaster.

I saw the two Lancasters flying together over Cambridgeshire a couple of weeks ago. Quite a sight.

Impressive family history you've got there, too!

Oddly enough, I seem to remember that one of them is Canadian. [Edit: Oops; just noticed you already mentioned it ]

Little known fact: In 1939, Canada had virtually no armed forces to speak of, but ended the war with the fifth largest army, the fourth largest air force, and the third largest navy in the world. Not too shabby for a country with only 12 million people (at the time).

After the war, my grandfather was given land on the outskirts of Hamilton as part of the country's GI Bill. Later, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and airport were built such that his home was near the end of the runway. The CWHM is the home of the Canadian Lancaster. Many times I had the pleasure of hearing that unique sound of four Rolls-Royce Merlin engines scream over his house. I cannot imagine how awesome it would sound with two Lancasters, plus Hurricane and Spitfire escorts (or the sound of 500 Lancasters seventy years ago!).
