Should I refer to my temporary contract as reason to apply for a job?

I have a contract until the 15th of January. I have gotten the notice it is not going to be renewed.

Shall I mention that as a reason to apply if I find a job that suits me?
Shall I mention this in a job interview when they ask the resignation period?
If they explicitly ask, shall I tell them my contract is going to be terminated? I can actually lie and tell them I do not know that yet, but I hate to lie.

Also, my present manager has told me he will not give me a bad recommendation if a company calls for reference. Probably not really good either, otherwise they would renew my contract. But nevertheless, it will not help, but it probably wont hurt either.

Contracts are often of fixed duration so I don't see that any negative implication can be drawn from the fact that your contract has a fixed termination date. I would see that as a perfectly good reason to be looking for another job.

Thanks Tim. That makes life a bit easier.

FYI: I am now bringing it like this: I have made program for their German market. Since it involved communication with the customer, and since in this small company nobody else was fluent in German, I was very qualified to do this task. However new projects are very technically low level involving embedded software and hardware design, and this is not my expertise.

To me it sounds very plausible. Well actually it is the truth even.
