OGNL <s:iterate/> and <s:set/> and <s:if/>

Hi,
I am using <s:iterate> in select html tag as

	<select id="areaName" name="areaName"
									style="width: 200px" onchange="">
										<s:set name="getAreaname" value="-- Select Area --"></s:set>
										<option selected="selected">-- Select Area --</option>

										<s:iterator value="areaList">
											<s:set name="name" value="areaName"/>  
											<option><s:property value="areaName" /></option>

										</s:iterator>
								</select>

But it does not set the selected option value in set variable. Please suggest any issue. or any correction ..


After that i want to check whether selected value other than -- Select Area -- then use <s:property/> but how to do that..
I am unable to get exact solution... Please help
