I learned that gmail ignores any dots you add to an email address. This means a.b@gmail.com and ab@gmail.com go to the same place. This is convenient as it allows filtering by the dots.

Interesting. Umpteen years ago I registered something like blahblah@gmail.com. Later I tried registering blah.blah@gmail.com because it would be easier to read, but got an error that it was too close to existing emails. I just tried blah.blah@gmail.com and it landed in my gmail.

You can also put a + after your gmail name, such as blahblah+coderanch@gmail.com and it will get to you. Handy for tagging the email address you use to subscribe to things and see who sells your details on to spammers.

Yes. I knew about the +. Unfortunately some email forms block +. They can't block a dot as it is in real addresses.
