Hi All,
I have been offered a position with an Australian company in Sydney and a pay of ~ 75K.
Just wanted to know your opinions about this offer (it's less,it's good or..)

Your thoughts are welcome..

Syndney is a very nice place to stay. I don't see you need to think much for starting with 75k.

Hi Jambuwant,

How much exp you have?

Could you please share the information as to how did you land up this job?

It would be of great help to many ranchers like me if you can give the resources/consultant's list for hunting the jobs in destinations like Australia.

Cheers!
Akash

I have never been to Australia myself but one of my friends was there. Whether 75k is a good salary or not depends on how much experience you have. But according to my friend, you can have a good standard of life with 75k.

assuming its 75K US dollars, thats like equivalent of making $125K based on the exchange rate, which is around 60 cents for every Aussie Dollar. Everything is priced similar to the US, except that its in Aussie dollars, not us dollars. Plus, the country rocks, people are nice.

Hi Brian,
The salary is in Australian dollars and not USD.So how does 75K sound? I mean all I am looking at is having a decent living with this salary, thats all.

I agree with Ali....depends on your experience then. Are you junior senior, etc and how that compares to your current situation. Of course, $125K would be awesome but I guess thats not the situation.

$75k in Sydney would be (my guess) fair for a mid level developer. The cost of living ithere is high though. Are you able to consider other parts of the country where the pay may be equivalent or slightly less but the cost of living is significantly lower? If so I'd suggest "Anywhere but Sydney"

As far as my experience is concerned,I have 8+ years exp. in J2EE but I have been hired for TIBCO skills for which I have ~ 1 years exp.
So I think maybe it's not a good deal

Keeping in mind I'm on the opposite coast, if you were going into a Java job I would think closer to $100k would be better, but since it is Tibco it's a bit harder to say.

With 9 years experience you should be looking at minimum 90-100k base + super.

If the position is in the Finance sector you should be aiming for a base (min) $95k and much higher if it is an investment bank.

If you are not on a 457 visa and are a PR or citzen you shouldn't have any problems.

Hope it helps,
Shameer

Hi Friends,
I am getting an offer to work in Sydney, Australia as senior software engineer (Java/J2EE). My salary will be AUD $75000/pa. It is a 6 month contract, can be extended. I have 7 yrs experience Java/J2EE. Any suggestion or advice on whether I should accept this offer will be greatly appreciated. In particular I am looking for what is the cost of living (in normal living standard for one person) and what is there standard salary there for senior Java guy. Is there any web site with these info.

Did you see my previous posts? 75k sounds like a mid-level role, and the cost of living is higher in Sydney than most cities in the world.
