I am new to BEA weblogic, would like to know if weblogic app server is a free download. I checked the BEA Oracle site and looks like it is a free download, but they have only version 10g. Can we still get 8.1 , does anyone have the link for it.

Thanks,
Ram

Yea, it looks like the oldest version they have available is 9.2.
Unless there's some reason you need an old version, I'd go with the newest (10.3). It supports Java 5 (8.1 is stuck at JDK 1.4).
I believe Oracle/BEA's licensing makes the server available for free for development. If you plan to put your code into a production environment, you'll need to purchase a license.

Thanks. Is there a eclipse plugin that can be used to integrate weblogic10 in eclipse 3.1. I searched in the oracle website and found some article which mentions about <WebLogic-Plugin (2.x)> , but couldn't find any link to download the plugin or how to install that.

Any inputs on how to get the plugin.

So there is no way I can use Eclipse IDE and integrate weblogic 10.3 server inside it. Isn't there a plugin like sysdeo for integrating Tomcat in Eclipse.
I am using Eclipse as my IDE and would like to use weblogic server and be able to start/shutdown server, add/remove projects, debug etc from the Eclipse IDE.

Also if anyone can help me download the 8.1 version that will be great. The client I am going to work for next uses Eclipse with weblogic 8.1

Thanks,
Ram

Quite the opposite. Check the link I gave you.

My rep found it:

Login to: https://Metalink.oracle.com
Go to tab: Patches & Updates
Quick Links to: Latest Patchsets, Mini Packs and Maintenance Packs
Patch Bundles for Individual Products or Components
Select BEA Weblogic Platform
Select the WebLogic Main version and SP version
Then you should see the download screen.

The only problem is I believe you need a current Oracle support account (CID) to register for metalink.oracle.com.
They said they're trying to limit access to 8.1 because it is going to reach "end of life" in the fall.

If you have an Oracle Metalink account, you could login and go to Metalink doc ID - 763603.1 which is the "BEA Release Archive". From here you can download the historical BEA releases.

You get the following releases that can be downloaded from here.

Oracle Weblogic Server - Version: 6.1 to 10.3
Oracle JRockit - Version: 7.0 to R27.6
Oracle WebCenter Interaction - Version: 5.0 to 6.5.1
Oracle Business Process Management Suite - Version: 6.0.0 to 6.0.5
Oracle Tuxedo - Version: 6.4 to 10.0
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Vipin

It works for me, as do the instructions I posted on March 04, 2009. Do you have a CID?

I believe the "Support Identifier" field in the User Registration is for your CID (customer account number). The number 763603.1 refers to a knowledge base article that points one to the BEA Release Archive:

If you have a CID you should be able to directly access the download or get your Oracle customer representative to guide you.
If you do not have a customer service account, this forum will not help you access a download that has been restricted by the owner.

I had the same problem and eventually found old downloadable versions of weblogic. More about it here : http://www.6footplus.com/home/show/233
