how to access .properties file

i want to access result.properties file from another computer in network (my IP is

error : java.io.FileNotFoundException: \\\softwares\result.properties (Access is denied)

the os of is Windows xp

the folder softwares is shared

If you type \\\softwares in the location bar in Windows Explorer, are you then allowed to see the content of the directory, and open the file with for example a text editor?

If not, then something is wrong with your Windows permissions.

hey thanks for reply

if i try to read text file it successfully reads through file:///// on browser

but not with the same result.properties

this time i have tried this also

Then I would suggest mapping a local drive to that share, and accessing the file on that local drive.

This works for me as expected with versions 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7 on Windows XP against a drive exported by a NAS device.
The drive is however in the mean while mapped to Z:, but I don't think this plays a role:
