4 winners will be drawn at random? Think the premise of this book is brilliant! I've been writing html and css for years and my Javascript is still too amateurish. If you will randomly *choose me* as a winner, I'll be delighted to help promotethe book on social media and my own sites.

Deep in the core of chaos there is patterning, so even trying to be completely random, there is still a guiding pattern. So even you if you don't yet know why you're going to pick me randomly to be a winner, it's cool because there is a deeper pattern at work here. So again, how random is random really?

I moved this to our "Ranch Office" forum since you are actually asking about the book promotion winner picking process itself.

You can find more details about the process here https://coderanch.com/how-to/java/BookPromotions

Random enough to be immune to bribery.

We have a program that selects all matching posts. Then the program uses the Java random number generator to pick the winners. Then a human reviews to make sure the program didn't do something silly like pick the author's posts.

Suppose you win, and someone complains, you won because of this post, is that a pattern?
On the other hand, if you don't win, and you complain, it was because of this post, is that a pattern?

Hi Jeanne Boyarsky ,

Does your program pick winners who has won a different book previously or just give chance only to new winners , because already I have won a book on spring . Can I still try for other books ??

Shiva

Whether or not someone has won previously does not influence future drawings.
