Looks cool! Unlike the Android watch, this comes with tons of features!

It's much cooler and feature-laden than I would have expected. I'm not a watch wearer -- and unlikely to become one -- so I'm not in the target audience for this device. But then again, I originally thought I didn't have any need for an iPad, but was proved very very wrong. So who knows?

P.S. It's just "Apple Watch" -- lately they seem to be moving away from the "i" prefix.

It's a Watch! Apple will sue whoever dares to call their watch a watch.
If this does not work they'll sue any producer of watches with curved corners.
They have some experience with that

I do wear a watch for work and when I'm on a time schedule. However, I like my watch to be dumb. I don't want to have to charge it. And I certainly don't want a digital device touching my skin all day.

I also don't need to constantly be aware of my phone. If something is that urgent, someone will call me. Using voice/phone. Imagine that.

How is that different from a non-digital device touching your skin all day (and what is exactly the definition of a "digital device")?

Check this out

This is my favorite:

So excited for the Apple Watch. For centuries, we've checked the time by looking at our phones. Having it on your wrist? Genius.

The more I learn about the Apple Watch, the more I feel I need to have it. I never used to wear a watch and this one looks tempting to me. In the beginning, I refrained from Apple products, but one after the other, I use only Apple products now at home (iPad, Mac Pro, iPhone). I'm sure I'll buy this once it is available next year!

It's a rare accessory that works without the item it is accessorizing. If you don't like Apple products, that's fine -- I'm a big proponent of using the tools and products that make you happy.

I don't like Apple products. I don't dislike them. You can say I am neutral (in respect to the products).
And I am aware of what Watch is meant to be.

I just think some people are overexcited about Apple products and I find this behavior amusing.
Sometimes I don't get it. An example: I see Apple stickers on cars too often to think it is normal.
Have you ever seen a Samsung sticker on a car? Or a LG sticker? Or Dell sticker? Or Vaio? I have not.
Are all of those brands less popular than Apple? I don't think so.

I guess I read too much applefobia
So it is not aceptable to make fun of some products in Meaningless Drivel? I thought Meaningless Drivel was meant for such meaningless conversations.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

Your posts hardly come across as neutral. Just saying.

Have you ever seen a Samsung sticker on a car? Or a LG sticker? Or Dell sticker? Or Vaio? I have not.

That's the point. Apple creates products that delight people enough to want to do things like sticker their car. I know of no one who would put a Dell sticker on their car. The behavior can amuse you -- but it's a testament to the happiness that Apple products brings to their customers. I can't recall the last time an LG product made me want to do anything but kick it (yes, I have LG products). And don't get me started on my history with Dell products.

Are all of those brands less popular than Apple? I don't thinks so.

I would say that you would be incorrect. Your own observation about how people react to Apple products with respect to others is evidence.

So it is not aceptable to make fun of some products in Meaningless Drivel?

You can make fun of products if you want. You can also expect to have your fun picked apart.

I guess you could say I'm an Apple fanboy. If the MacMini server, the MacBookAir x 2, the iPhone5 x 2, the Apple TV x 3, iPad, and iPods that all connect through my AirPort Extreme are any indication. I like that I turn them on and the work together without spending hours fussing over drivers and updates. That gives me more time to do things I enjoy.

However, I'm in Bear's camp on the Watch. I'm not a watch wearer -- and unlikely to become one. Most of the kids I see at school also don't wear watches. And I cannot imagine that the percentage of watch wearers has increased since this 2011 poll that found 60% of 16-34 years old don't wear watches.

I do hope it's a success (the stock has also been pretty good for my portfolio over the last few years), but I'm struggling to understand the target market.

Fred, in the Apple universe the person accessorizes the device, not the other way round. If the person happens to get value out of the device, then so much the better. This video explains it in the first 30 seconds:

If it's just a watch yeah. But like so-called "smartphones", which are portable computers first, and mostly mediocre phones second, this device is an accessory to the iPhone that also just happens to be able to be used as a watch.

Seriously, I think electronics will soon be to the point where we can wear the equivalent of rooms full of computers on our wrists. The miniaturization of components is nothing short of astounding.

Someone I work with has an iPod (mini? nano? not sure) he wears like a watch. It has more memory, cpu, and display cababilities than the computers my dad used in the 60's and 70's. And those computers filled a room.

So by some accounts, we already can.

Just another stylish and useless Apple product! Better would be some minimal thing that would allow communication without recurring costs. Maybe piggybacked somehow on the style hipsters Oh, and manufacture it somewhere in the Western worlld, how bout it?

iDunno. I have a watch. It tells the time and I can use all its functions simply by placing my wrist in my line of sight. I can use it even if my phone is in another room/building/county, and the battery lasts for years. I like my smart phone because it's useful and useable, but I can't see why I'd replace my perfectly functional watch with something that forces me to carry my phone around and needs recharging every few hours. It's not like I'm ever going to read/send email via a watch - not with my ageing eyesight. And I'm old enough to remember the first wave of energy-hungry red LED watches where you had to press a button to display the time, so I never want go down the road of cumbersome two-handed watch operation again. This particular fad is definitely going to pass me by.

Sorry, Apple - guess I'm just another iDinosaur...

Just read that the watch is more than 1cm high - my gut feeling is that this would limit its appeal quite a bit. It must feel clunky.

If it couldn't be self-sustaining, then subsidized wisely. If you're on food stamps you qualify for a free phone, you know. The phone ought to be wholly made in U.S.A. don;t you think? The chairman of Apple says he doesn't manufacture here because we can't do it. No time like the present to learn, eh?

The Samsung plant mentioned in the article; I used to live in Austin and my friend said that at the Samsung place there are cameras everywhere, even in the bathrooms I'd like to go back to Austin and stay awhile again sometime. Lots of state pride in Texas.

And if your friend said it, it must be true, despite the fact that there is Federal protection of privacy in such places (restrooms, locker rooms, etc)?
