Possibly, but I think useful lessons were learned about what is deemed acceptable by the general public, and awareness has been raised of what is technically possible. A lot of useful discussions have emanated from it.
Just speculating here, but the next generation might be glasses that have only the camera built in -which might be unnoticeable to all but the most astute observers- and which communicate with Google Wear watches to display whatever they deem worthwhile communicating (maybe via an Android smartphone that's close by). That would not be very different in effect, but possibly be much less noticeable by other people.
