Hello,
Base on some inquiries with people who have taken part 2 and 3 of the OCMJEA 6 certification path, most if not all design problems involve choosing the server hardware specifications of the system you are to design.
I can say I already have a lot of experience in designing architectures but never have I recommended server hardware specifications to my clients. Usually, there is already an existing server purchased by the client from its vendor with recommendations from the server vendor what it can handle.
So my question is, how were you able to do this in the assignment? How did you go about choosing server hardware specifications in your capacity planning? Is there like a formula or process to follow on how to choose server hardware specs? because as I see it, this would be really hard to guess, especially that in choosing servers, there are a lot (and I mean a lot) of factors involved, just not the application you will be creating there.
Did you do something like include server hardware specs benchmarks in the design in your assignment? Or just a wild guesstimate based on experience?
Thanks and I hope you could give me a good advice how to approach this.
Regards,
Andres
