Hello,

I am working towards 1Z0-813 certification. I have worked 7+ years in java and also have certification in Java 1.4. I have taken career break for last 6 years and working to get back to what i loved most, programming with Java.

I have been reading through several topics from 'Oracle Certified Professional Java SE 7 Programmer Exams 1Z0-804 and 1Z0-805: A Comprehensive OCPJP 7 Certification Guide by S G Ganesh  (Author), Tushar Sharma  (Author)'. This book is for 1Z0 - 805/1Z0-804.

I did go through few posts here in the OCPJP forum, but not much info shared about 1Z0-813 exam. It will be helpful to know how to prepare for the exam and what are the reference materials.

Thanks,
Reshma

Hi Reshma Shanbhag,

It will be helpful to know how to prepare for the exam and what are the reference materials.

The details about exam  like exam cost , number of questions, time, format, syllabus, etc is here OCPJP8Upgrade. The exam objectives contains mainly Java SE 7, 8 versions added features.  If you already have basic knowledge about those concepts, You can follow two books such as
Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 8 Programmer I by Sybex, Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 8 Programmer II by Sybex. If you don't know first get some basic knowledge about the concept and then go through the above two books.

I can suggest you the book Java The Complete Reference by Oracle Press  to get basic knowledge about the concepts.

Reshma,
You actually can skip the first one and go straight to the Oracle Certified Professional Java SE8 Programmer II. Most of the book applies. There's also an appendix with topics that are just on the 813 upgrade and not on the 809 main exam. This appendix also covers the little from the OCA 8 book that you need to know for the upgrade exam
