Something called "PenIt" - a special pen that writes on special paper, and basically instantly transfers whatever text / diagrams you've written to a savable, modifiable vector graphics image on your Mac. The paper has tiny little marks on it that you can barely see - so that the pen can track what you write, but it's totally acceptable paper to write on (feels normal looks normal).

For all you UMLers, Mind Mappers, diagrammers out there, this thing is EXTRA cool - we're ordering at least one today!

A very slick looking third party OSX tablet. About the footprint of a MAcBook - very nice looking hardware - like maybe a blending of Apple and Sony hardware. Expensive (mid $2ks) but really a very nice, powerful, full function tablet computer.

Tons of skins: iPods skins of course, but also these very cool skins for MacBooks and Pros - colored plastic that looks realy sharp, if you ever had a hankering for a blue MacBook

The iTV is okay - they didn't add a second "DVD in" jack, so if you still want to use your external DVD player you have to also buy a switch box. (I have this phobia about using my laptop CD / DVD drive too much - whenever possible I do CD / DVD stuff on a less critical external drive - does anyone else share this paranoia?)

The UI for the iPhone really is slick - watching the live demo was amazing - this UI has an amazingly futuristic feel to it! (hand gestures, rubberbanding, snappiness)

Tons and tons of new speaker configurations for iPods - every shape and size you can imagine.

Games for iPods, (tetris, ...)

Lots of music-related software and hardware (in the GarageBand, Logic realm)

Tons and tons of Adobe-related activity: photoshop, desktop publishing, new Flash stuff...

The touring John Lennon digital music studio bus.

A touring digital video studio RV.

A 3D printer : )

Really good, fun, laid-back, excited energy thoughout the whole show!

Bert,

Can you remember what company is advertising the PenIt?

Do you have a URL?

Thanks again,

Yes, well... Maybe I should start by saying that I also have an aversion to typing the letter... uh, you know... the one that's immediately to the left of 'W' on the keyboard. I mean, the key for that letter is built right into the keyboard, so I'm just worried that if it wears out, I would have to replace the entire keyboard. So I try to type that particular letter as infre... uh, I mean as least often as possible, in hopes that it will somehow prolong the life of my computers. So far, this approach has served me well, as I have never had to replace a keyboard because of that particular key malfunctioning.

(Years ago, I went through 3 Gateway keyboards in 6 months. One of the new replacements they sent me was DOA.)

That's one reason I replace all of the so-called "electric" wiring in my computers with miniature hydraulics. This is computing based on established technologies -- not that 20th century voodoo stuff. When I get my iPhone, I will be installing a spring-winding mechanism to keep the tanks pressurized.

I bet you saw some interesting hydraulics at MacWorld.

That's because it is all a government conspiracy - all these "so-called" electronic devices really work on smoke. Damage one of these devices, and the smoke will escape (you may be able to see the smoke if you do enough damage), and the device will no longer work.

Like Pauline, I am curious about whether you have had a chance to play with the PenIt yet.

Best regards, Andrew

We've been on a series of business trips, the last of which is next week, then we're home for a nice long stretch. We plan to catch up on a bunch of stuff, including PenIt, at that point, so I hope to have a review in a few weeks.

Wonder if those devices are not the only ones working on smoke around here...

If you're thinking smoke, you should also be thinking mirrors, bells and whistles. They work great together!

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
