Pay scale: �25134 - � 32796 (approx �37K- �47.5K) per annum -subject to annual adjustment in accordance with national agreements.

The Intelligent Media Systems & Services Research Laboratory (IMSS, www.imss.reading.ac.uk) is an internationally well-established and dynamic group with a large and expanding portfolio of EU/DTI/MoD/EPSRC-funded research projects in strategic Computer Science and ICT fields and involving close alliances with world-class academic and industrial players in the UK and globally. IMSS Research is pushing forward the frontiers of innovation in advanced model-driven and service-oriented semantic-cognitive architectures as underpinned by agent technologies, middleware, ambient intelligence, and, multi-modal interfaces including virtual/augmented reality to realise and formally validate smart and secure environments.



We are offering to self-motivated individuals with research leadership experience, the opportunity to work within a highly creative team, enjoy international collaborative research and present their work at centres of excellence in Europe and beyond.



You will have:

A PhD or Masters Degree qualification in Computer Science or in a closely associated discipline with software and systems engineering experience (exceptionally a 1st Class Honours Degree with a relevant final year project may be considered). Additionally candidates will have working knowledge of one of the 12 fields listed below as their specialist area:

� Semantic Web/Grid

� Web Services

� Profiles Repositories Management

� Agent-broker frameworks

� Dynamic Media Adaptation & Personalisation (MPEG 21 Standards)

� Metadata Standards such as XML, SOAP, .NET etc

9) Embedded Systems:

� Embedded-systems designs encompassing both hardware and software aspects (e.g. VHDL programming, Memory controller interfaces such as SRAM, SDR and DDR).

� Experience of a range of parallel -programming techniques: parallel loops, loop-nest scheduling, parallel reduction, divide-and-conquer, pipelining, task-based parallelism

� Real-time processing and parallel decoding of telecommunication protocols

� FPGA design tools experience

� Sensor Networks



10) Rights Protection Technologies

� Digital Rights Management including Finger Printing, WaterMarking & relevant MPEG21 standards



11) Advanced Multi-modal Interfaces

� Affective interfaces

� Embedded Conversational Agents (ECAs-Avatars)



12) Formal Methods, Simulation



Successful candidates may have the opportunity to pursue a relevant PhD Programme of Research supported under the University staff fee-waiver framework.
