hi friends
I just cleared the exam with 86% - although it is nothing to celebrate about - but for a person like me who doesn't know anything of programming( i am an Advertising man ) - taking this up and in a period of 2 months - to clear this has been an uphill task
i want to thank a few people who helped me and are helping thousands like me
1. Marcus Green - with his excellent tutorial and mock exams
2. Robert, heller and Ernest for their to-the-point book
3. Mahalaxmi - for a good site from where i could get access to the WORLD of mock exams
4. Bill Brogden and Khalid Mughal - for creating such difficult exams - makes you so " feeling unworthy" that you study harder
5. JQ+ - excellent preparation - some questions were identical
6. and ofcourse JAVA RANCH - such a motivating forum - made me feel that i have thousands of friends who will help me with my problems -
Thanx every one

Why is this nothing to celebrate about?! I think it's great. Congratulations! Well done!

Congrat Shalinder. It is an occassion to celebrate.
How do you compare the exam with the Marcus Green Mock Exam. Could you please give some breakup of the questions topic wise.
Urgent.

Thanx everybody
the exam was quite simple except for some things which I didn't know at all - like some complex questions on anonymous classes, collections,
about 60 % questions have code - rest are multiple choice theory questions - believe me the codes are simpler than thw Multiple choice
code is not more than 10-15 lines - only in some cases you hacve to use the exhibit
remember - to click more to see all the choices wherever it is provided
there was 1 fill in the blanks - on strings - i think concat

Threads - 6-7 questions
IO - 6-7 - remeber all constructors and methods - chaining
Collections - 3-4 - hoe to append file contents , what to use for specific encoding (ISR/ OSR)
Inner / Anonymous classes - 5-6 - most difficult
Math / String class - 4-5 - remeber the methods - try out all the methods of Math class using all types of inputs - Be clear of the heirarchies - what is final - static - abstract , etc
Awt / event - 5 - Heirarchies - menucomponent - layout constructors - methods in event classes - methods like get source - can it take a parameter of obj o. what is get ID etc.
GC -1 - after which line ... kind of question
Overriding / overload - 4-5 -
Loops - modifications of for / while / do loops
most of the questions were on basics
do the JQ+ mocks seriously - very close to reality - Khalid mughal - excellent - marcus greene mocks - for that matter do all the mocks - and analyse each and every answer and each and every option whether you answered it right or wrong
just for you to compare
i used to score ~ 85% on Marcus Greene( jchq.net)
~ 70% on Khalid Mughal
~ 75% on JQ+( average of 9 exams)
~ 80 % on Barry boone
~ 75% on JXam
~ 70% on Bill Brogden's most difficult
and so on - of corse some were taken when my prparation was not complete
Overall they want to check you fundamental knowledge - the questions are really straight forward - you just have to be alert to spot some error
pls write to me anytime for any help you need

Congratulations, Shailendra and thank you for your in-detail explaination. Some questions I would like to ask you about JQplus since you highly recommend it. Is the GUI of real exam similar to the jq+? If it is not, can you please describe what
it looks like?
I'm gonna take the exam soon. I think it's better for me to get familiar with everything of the exam before rather than at the time i take it.
Thanks a lot.
