Hi Ranchers,

As a SCJP and SCWCD, I would like to go for a product certification. The IBM 255 and 256 exams caught my eye. Can somebody tell me (out of experience) what the biggest differences are between them and which one would suit me best (I'm a web developer)?

Some advice about books/tools for the exam preparation are also appreciated. ;-)

Thanks!

The 255/256/257 are somewhat similar but the higher numbers are significantly more difficult.

I passed the 256 a year and a half ago and all I used was the ICE practice exam provided by IBM and the Help menu of RAD to learn all the tools, wizards, and shortcuts. I had been using WSAD already for quite some time by then so I was mostly familiar with everything to begin with.

Hi!
As far as I know the 255 is very product specific, where the 256 is more like the SCWCD exam with little EJB stuff and does not cover many RAD features.
I hope this helps a bit.

Does it make any sense for me to go for the 256 exam because I already have a SCWCD certificate? Does it have much added value? Otherwise I'd better choose the 255 exam.

Also, are there any books about these exams available? (except IBM's redbook)

Thanks again!

hy Tim

These 255, 256, 257 test your knowledge of java and your skill developments using the RAD.

The 255 is an entrance level test, is tooling oriented.

I recommend taking this test (the 255).

You can find some resources at:

http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/offers/lp/r/radcert/index.html?S_TACT=105AGX01&S_CMP=HP

http://java.boot.by/ibm-255/

You can download a demo of the RAD 6.0 or even the RAD 7.0 at the IBM web site.

The other two (256, 257) covers many aspects of J2EE.

I guess they should add more value. As for me I'm not interested in the 256 and 257 exams because they are based on the RAD 6.0 and (partly) on the EJB 2.0 technology. I'm waiting for the updates for these tests, then I'll give them a try.

Have a look at:

http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/tests/obj256.shtml
http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/tests/obj257.shtml

bye.
