Hi,
Today I cleared XML certification exam with 90%. The real exam was very tricky and sometimes it was difficult to select the correct answer(eg:when 2 or more answers are almost similar). Many times I felt I would be lucky enough to pass!!
However here are the details :-
Exam questions:- Lots of scenario based questions , 4-5 on Xml schema , 2 on XSL FO, 4-5 on DOM and 1 on Events, 3-4 on SAX, basic XML, XSLT, 2-3 on SOAP+ UDDI,2 on Namespaces,DTD,some on Xpath, couple on Xquery, 2 on Xlink .
Peparation time: 2 1/2 months (as I have a full time job and am a mother of a 5 month old), but actual time spent was around 3 weeks.
Materials: Professional XML 2nd edition, w3schools.org, schema and xsl tutorials from xfront. Essential XML by skonnard(didn't get time to go through all the chapters) , IBM tutorial on XSL FO ,Xquery and of course this forum!!
I am thankfull to everyone on this forum who provided valuable tips and links for this exam. Good luck to all.
cheers
Ujwala

Hi Dhriti,

I didn't have any specific question on Xpointer itself, but a couple of questions had xpointer related statements as one of the multiple choice answers. I guess its better to know atleast the concepts , so that one doesn't make the wrong choice in the exam.
cheers

Hi,
If you are new to XML I would advise you to start with www.w3schools.com tutorials on XML. They are very simple and straightforward. Next would be any good XML book.(if you are aiming for certification then might as well read Professional XML 2nd Edition). The online tutorials on xfront and IBM are also good.
I took almost all the mocks exams mentioned on the javaranch xmlexam links page.I scored between 70-80 % in the exams. IBM mock exam score was 72%, since I finished it in a hurry (20 mins) and made some silly mistakes.
For practice, download XMLSpy trial version .
All the best

Ujwala Kawalay,
High praise - congratulations. And thank you for posting your content breakdown. very helpful and clear. By the way, are you an educator? do you work with XML or related technology in your professional life? ... and best wishes for your little one.

Hi John,
I am not an educator. I am a S/W Engg and I had worked on a webservices project in the past which involved XML,XSLT and schema.
Thanks for your wishes.

Hi Dhriti,
You have to ask them to sent a hard copy. I also got the electronic copy, but requested them to sent the printed cert. They have confirmed to sent it, but I haven't received it yet(in their reply they had mentioned 2-4 weeks for delivery)
Regards
Ujwala

Hi Ujwala,
Congrats!!
am planning on xml certification. Can u tell me which of the chapters are important from Professional XML(2nd edition) for the certification as there seems to be many chapters not to related to certification topics directly.....though they might be important for understanding the concepts in depth...
Thanks in Advance!
Zena
