Hi all,
Does this cert help gain understanding of
Frameworks, interoperability standards (XML and others) ,say when using EJB components and Web service components?
Are there other frameworks studied in addition to / instead of Struts?
What's the level of detail required, i.e do you need to go as far as JSTL when discussing Struts?
This question may be more applicable to the next release of the certification ( which might have happened already and I've missed it, in which case I'm sorry ) .
Any help will be really appreciated.
regards

Would the Allen and Bambera book cover these
issues or isn't it relevant to the SCEA exam ?

Hy,
as far as I know, there is no special knowledge required on such frameworks, the exam rather requires you to understand and solve such issues yourself. you must know how such a framework works, you sould be able to use a front controller (as an example) yourself, and justify your choise.
At the present time, this applies to part 2 (the assignement - a case study you have to solve, by defining an architecture only as uml diagrams).
The 1st part (multiple choise - theory exam) only requires knowledge of GoF patters.
As I read, there will also be some J2EE pattern included in the 1st part in the future, elements of software devel. process, and more.

Thanks , that's good to know.
If you do include current thinking etc (kept yourself up to date) I guess they wouldn't fail you as long as you justify the decisions. One would be more confident about decisions if the current thinking has been used in practise as well. - Catch 22
Great if you can combine experience with Certification.

Rudi,
I see you've passed SCEA I .
When the new Cert is released would you be able to :
a) jump straight onto the new SCEA II and III
OR
b) do you start again from SCEA I?

Option a) seems the most reasonable to me as you could show that you've kept up with the current thinking in your assignments as is the case with SCJD - the Developer assignment.
Replies from the moderators also would be very helpful.

Sun has previously stated that an upgrade exam will be offered for existing SCEAs when the new version of the exam arrives. The upgrade exam is reportedly similiar in design to the SCEA Part 1 exam. Therefore, it does not look as if an existing SCEA will need to do another assignment just to upgrade their certification. Of course, none of this is official and could change in the future.

Well I guess there is a SCJP for Java1.2 and one for Java1.4, am I right? Checking...
Yes, you can see that on: suned.sun.com :
Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform 1.4 (CX-310-035)
Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform 1.2 (CX-310-025)
Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform Upgrade Exam (CX-310-036)
My educated guess is, that the same will happen with SCEA. There will be a time when both exams will be available. Plus the upgarde
I don't think my beeing laizy with the old SCEA will bring me to new one ;-))
Java is great, but Sun is conducting a business, and I assume I'll have to purchase the upgrate after completing the old one.

PS: IMO, if you have the old one, noone will be in doubt of your capabilities.

It will give me the powers of the gods. Not bad for a tiny ad:
