Hi, currently I'm preparing the SCEA5 upgrade exam, there is some other rancher preparing it? or that wants exchange informations about it? For example, I noted are required things like GOF patterns or QOS requirements I had answered in the SCEA for J2EE yet.

Caded book is a good book but it is for J2EE version and not for Java EE5.

I really don't understand why Sun in Assignment Objectives of the SCEA5 upgrade exam replicated some of the the objectives of the SCEA J2EE (e.g GOF patterns) exam.

I suppose that did strike me as a little odd, when I noticed that as well, but as it's a requirement for the regular SCEA exam track, there's no reason they can't ask you questions on the upgrade to ensure you still know the design patterns.

I think the books are:

1. Core J2EE Patterns: Best Practices and Design Strategies (2nd Edition)
2. Mastering EJB 3.0
3. JSF for nonbelievers (http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-jsf1/)
4. Implementing Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) with the Java EE 5 SDK (http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/WebServices/soa3/)

This core materials should be integrated from stuff coming from Enterprise Java Beans by Richard Monson-Haefel and Core JavaServer Faces (2nd Edition) by David Geary and Cay S. Horstmann, plus some articles about persistence Java techniques (JDO, O/R Mappers...). A good repass of all the points of the orginal J2EE SCEA exam (e.g. GOF Patterns, Security, QoS requiremnets, etc.) will be beneficial too.

hi guys, im thinking of preparing for the upgrade to scea5 (310-053).
- any news on this, or new comments on the list of books Damiano provided? (very useful though)..
- do you know how the upgrade exam is? is it a one shot multiple question or is it a two step design/questions like step ii and iii of the old scea?

any comment is appreciated,
thanks in advance
