Does the request propagate across VMs?

Distributed applications are spread across VMs and thus to service a request, there might be multiple VMs required t interact for the same.

Am I Right?

Multiple JVMs might be involved, depending on the architecture used, but the request goes to one particular JVM, where the relevant data is extracted. That JVM then delegates or uses other JVMs if warranted. So the HTTP request itself is not "distributed" in any way, although it may cause further requests to other JVMs to be sent.
