Hi everybody,

is there a big difference between the Kathy and Bert Bates book and the one by Philip Heller & Simon Roberts (Complete Java 2 Certification: Study Guid
Guide Fifth Edition) ? I just began to prepare the SCPJ for 5.0 platform, I have the Heller & Roberts book but I saw that everybody at Javaranch is using the K&B one...

Thanks in advance...

Hi!
Someone said the Heller's book is incomplete but I'm not sure..
It would be interesting to know the differences between this book and K&B. In Europe now it's very difficult to find K&B book for 1.5 and I'm searching for another exam preparation resource.
On Amazon I saw another book written by Heller: "Java 2 Exam Notes"..
It seems to be a "completion" of the book "Complete Java 2 Certification"..

Hi,

I have used H&R for preparation, I have not seen K&B. I would say H&R is very good for 1.4 topics (including those ommitted in 5.0, like bit shifting..) but the 5.0 topics are written IMHO a bit in a hurry. I have used couple of other articles about generics, collections, etc. to feel confident.

Overall, it is very good book, but not perfect.

I personally recomend K&B.
