Looking for a word extractor from arbitrary files

I develop a simple file indexer. StringTokenizer works fine for text files, however for some other formats it fails. I remember I used some word extractor from arbitrary files back in 1992, can somebody remind me what the tool was and any Java ports of it?
 
With a little knowledge, a cast iron skillet is non-stick and lasts a lifetime.
