Reading a Data Range from an excel file

How can we read a particular Data Range or a particular cell's value from an excel sheet in our java program???

If i remember correctly:
"Select * from table where column_name between 1st and 2nd"

Sorry i didn't get the answer of question,
let me elaborate the question :-
say i want to read the value of cell 'A12'
OR say i want to read the Range of cells 'A12-H12'???
Now how to do this?
