The definitive book is the one in the Sun Java series: "JDBC API Tutorial and Reference, Second Edition". Probably not the best book to learn from, though.

I thought it was an exceptionally good book that should be useful for a very wide audience. Knowing Don he's probably advanced enough to get a lot out of it. Do not expect much material on SQL and databases though: it focuses strongly on the JDBC API.
A third edition covering JDBC 3.0 should be out fairly soon. You'll have to take me on my word, but it's good
