frame.show() takes very long time to display

hi,
i have 2 frames (frame1 & frame2) user logs in using frame1, frame2 is a jdbc applications which opens up database connections and icons to show, once the user logs in, frame2 takes quite a long time to display...what is the reason? is there any way to display it quick? or can u give me any other suggestions?

Has the database connection already been made before you show() the frame? Does database data get saved ahead of time in the components models, or does it get requested as the components are displayed in the frame?

This is probably more of a problem with the design or threading (or lack thereof) in getting data from the database, rather than a GUI issue per se.
 
Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
