Can anyone please tell me what are the disadvantages in Servlet Chaining?

The concept that used to be referred to as servlet "chaining" has been replaced with "Filters" as of the servlet 2.3 API. The main disadvantages as I see it:
1. Complex - more APIs
2. Slower than a single servlet
Advantages:
1. Flexibility
2. Better separation of functions and potential for using library components.
