I'm sorry, I have to comment on this one.
Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist, and a sociopath.
Why would any decent non-rapist, empathic person support anything he does?
If you ignore him, he will fade from the public eye.
Please, ignore him.

Does the fact we all know he's a rapist make him worse than any other?

Ask Evander Holyfield. Ask Lewis. Are they somehow lesser beings for stepping in the ring?

If you ignore him, he will fade from the public eye.

If you ignore Osama bin Laden, so will he...?

Yea, I'd say so.

Yes, they are. Everything can't be about money, I'm sorry. Sometimes taking a moral stand is more important.

If you ignore Osama bin Laden, so will he...?

You must be tired. Or you're kidding, right?

Only a little. Tyson is a convicted rapist. He's got some obvious problems. He's got some really nasty people influencing him.
Should he feel shame and do us all the favor of removing himself from public view? Should he never again be allowed to work? Should we all be required to keep on him until he shows remorse and other visible signs of suffering under our scrutiny?
I've never watched a Tyson fight. He didn't have to rape or disfigure anyone for me not to like him. Professional boxing lost whatever credibility it had way before Tyson lost control. But on the whole boxing's fans don't seem to mind.
Anyway, if you're saying people in public view should be "worthy" of our attention, or must lead unblemished lives, or simply can't be convicts, or even merely that we must draw the line at Mike Tyson, I'm curious to hear why. Ignoring such people doesn't make them go away, or make us better people for refusing to look.

The rape thing isn't what should prevent him from stepping into the ring again. It is the biting part of the ear off, the trying to break another boxers arm off, the biting of the leg at a weigh in. I also don't believe the people around him can be blamed. He was after all, a street punk before he was a fighter.

I was pleased to see Tyson lose, I have to admit. It is a shame he has turned out the way he has though, I really liked him when I was younger....

Tyson has to be accountable for those disgusting displays in and out of the ring, sure, but I'd put money that Don King & friends did more than a little egging on for the spectacle of it. Controversy sells, and it's not like Don King ever gave a flying s*** about anyone but #1.
I didn't hear how many states refused to sanction the fight, but it was several. This fight did after all go down in TN, the spiritual home of professional wrestling and other sequin-laced spectacles.
