Hi!
No, that is not the latest version, since I (as far as I know) cannot update that webpage.
The latest version available for all boys and girls hooked on web services can always be found at: http://www.javaforum.se/jforum/posts/list/549.page
Best wishes!

No, it is the latest version (as far as I know), and it was recently updated by the moderators.
If there are any changes after July 1 2009, please let us know so that we can update the link.

I have downloaded it successfully, thanks Ivan. It probably failed because my internet connection.

Anyway, I found that studying Java Web Services is very boring, do you know any funny resources?

Hi!
I think web services are very funny. My personal favourite must be the WS-I Basic Profile.
The previous version was entertaining, but version 1.1 is even better! I am really looking forward to version 2.1.
Another nice web service related specification document which I also like a lot is the WSDL 2.0 specification. I enjoyed readiing both the Primer and the Core parts.
The SOAP 1.2 specification document comes in three parts; Primer, Messaging Framework and Adjuncts. This is another funny specification which is perfect sitting infront of the fire on a gloomy winter evening.
Best wishes and happy reading!

Hello and Thanks for the prompt response,
I have downloaded the latest version Many thanks .
A request please could you please grant rights to make this document printable as I do not have access to a computer all the time and I also like to study from a book late in the night and whilst travelling (I sometimes spend more than 4 hours a day travelling ).

Thank you

Ugh.
As far as I see when opening the study notes on my computer, there are no restrictions regarding printing.
I have not consciously made any such limitations, since I feel it is pointless.
Best wishes!

Hi!
Just tried to download and open the study notes and there were no problems. Try another browser, temporarily turn off any firewall (sounds strange, but have interfered with download of the document in the past) etc.
Best wishes!

Updated.
Fixed some errors and changed the license.
Could someone with privileges please update the local copy on JavaRanch - it is really quite outdated (version of July 1, I believe)? Thanks!

Hi Ivan,

When I try to download the notes in my office, the Symantec Endpoint Protection s/w installed on it blocks the download stating "HTTP Adobe Malformed PDF DoS detected". I wonder if this can be fixed.

Thanks!

Can't do that at work!

I don't get this error while downloading other PDFs. Is there something different in the way you are generating it?

The PDF document is generated by OpenOffice, nothing special about it, at least not intentionally. Some people have had problems downloading it with virus protection enabled. Disabling it solved their problems.

Hi!
Take a look in the forum for book recommendations. Some books that have been mentioned are:
Java Web Services Up and Running, RESTful Java with JAX-RS, RESTful Web Services, Designing Web Services with the J2EE 1.4 Platform (free PDF downloadable)
These contain introductory material. When you have passed the certification, there are many more very interesting books! :-)
Best wishes!

No, not concerning the books. If you are completely new to web services, I would suggest starting with the book "J2EE Web Services" by Richard Monson-Haefel. The first few chapters are still of interest for people aspiring to pass the new version of the certification.
Best wishes!

Well, there seem to be only one version of the SCDJWS available, at the moment, and no mock exams for it.
My advise to you, or anyone else aspiring for the certification, is to write questions of your own.
There are the books I mentioned, my study notes and all the specifications, so the table is set, so to speak - the only thing needed is time!
Best wishes!

Hello !

I think there is a commercial mock exam from Sun -- http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/WGS-PREX-J230C.xml

There were some good feedbacks about it ....

Best regards,
MZ

Hi Ivan,
I downloaded Exam-Objectives-SCDJWS5.pdf for the Oracle Certified Professional, Java EE 5 Web Services exam. I was going through the excellent note that you have put together , however I think I have noticed one printing mistake may be, on page 15 (XML Schemas). In this page you have explained the use of elementFormDefault . The first portion explais it's use when elementFormDefault is set to qualified . However I guess in the second portion you have tried to explain when elementFormDefault is set to unqualified, here I guess the printing mistake happened , it is printed as qualified instead of unqualified. Please can you clarify if I am correct.
