Hi...

I would suggest you to go for SCJP 1.6 .

If you know the basics of Java, then the best book that I could suggest you is "Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 (Exam 310-065) By Katherine Sierra, Kathy ".

Thank you for your valuable information. I have few more queries.

Hos different is 1.6 exam from 1.4 and 1.5?? I think much tougher when compared to 1.5 even. Therefore i would prefer to take up 1.5 and then upgrade to 1.6 later. Can you please kindly guide me on what are all the additional topics in 1.5 from 1.4? and will the book for 1.4 help me while preparing for 1.5??

there is not much difference between SCJP 5 or SCJP 6 but there are with SCJP 1.4 but the logic behind them is always same

Hi Madhavee,

If you have preferred for SCJP 1.5, then again I would suggest you to go for SCJP 1.6, because SCJP 1.5 & 1.6 almost cover the same topics except that the SCJP 1.6 in addition covers just the following two topics:
i) System.Console class
ii) Navigable Collections.

I am not sure whether SCJP 1.4 book would help you or not, but you could buy the SCJP 1.6 book for the following reasons:
i) It covers what you need to pass SCJP 1.6
ii) More mock questions are available in the CD that is provided along with the book.

Wish you all the best

Sun is discontinuing SCJP 1.4 this month. You probably cannot even buy a voucher for SCJP 1.4 anymore.

There's a lot of new stuff in Java 5, so there are lots of new things in SCJP 5 compared to SCJP 1.4. The difference between SCJP 5 and SCJP 6 is very small. The differences are described in more detail in the JavaRanch SCJP FAQ.

So, I'd recommend you to study for SCJP 6.
