so im going to do this before the spring, based on helping my friends study for this i think it shouldnt be too hard. i have a few questions

0 there is only one version of this test so any book for scja should be current right?

1 where can i find the topics list
2 where can i find that uml diagram everyone talk about
3 What are 2 great books to buy? (i want one that is really basic ie starts as if you were a terrible java programmer and one that will cover every topic i will ever see on the scja)
4 Where can i find a decent amount of free practice material? (old tests or something)
5 what is that book that is worthy for studying for the SCJP while studying for this (i think the author is a moderator here like Jane something). i was told to study both at the same time.

thanks all please number your answers

for number 0, as far as I know, the exam is new so this is the first version. Don't worry if there is a new version when you get certified, just pass the SCJP rather than upgrading SCJA exam.

For number 1, refer to : http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/CX-310-019.xml

For number 3, You can buy "SCJA study guide" by Cameron along with the "SCJA Certification exam Question Guide".

For number 4, refer to www.scja.com

For number 5, you can buy any Java books.

For Sun training services, you can take SL-110 and WJTB-310. Please refer to http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/CX-310-019.xml

Hope that will help you. Good Luck !!!

For the UML, I think there is a free UML topic by Head First but I forget the link. Maybe someone in this thread will tell you. In SCJA study guide by Cameron, there is a chapter which covers UML topic

Good Luck !!!
