OK.
So I am taking like 30 minutes to write very detail technical stuff and once I press the "submit" button the forum kindly forwards me to log-in page. Flushing all my hard work down the toilet. So I am hoping to save it by navigating back but no use. What a bullcrap!

I am very pissed off.

I never write a lengthy post on any forum in the textarea. Notepad should be your friend. There are too many factors that can kill the browser and this ensures you will not loose a post.

Juhan,

Tell me more.

Were you logged in before you started to post?

Was there a big gob of time that passed between the start of your post and when you hit submit?

Decent browsers -- Firefox, in particular -- preserve the contents of textareas when you navigate back. IE, sadly, discards it. There's nothing we can do on this end, but upgrading to Firefox would help.

I'm also +1 for editing in a real editor, which a textarea is not. I use It's All Text (or something like that) for Firefox, backed by whichever editor I happen to be most fond of that week.

I am also in favor of using text editor. but this problem makes me think that we should have a draft post(also auto save) feature, subject to a limitation that user can have a maximum n number of post as draft post.

thanks,
Shailesh

Another thing I tend to do

Ctrl-A + Ctrl-C

I know if it fails, I am one Ctrl-V away from posting again.

This wouldn't help. Its still an attempt to submit a form after a session has expired so will result in the same outcome.

This could help up to some extent, a submit after session expire will indeed result in same outcome, but at least their would be something available in drafts be session was expired, and if user is back after session expire user can be notified that their is new 'auto save' post is available in drafts.

Thanks,
Shailesh
