Hi Everyone,

I am new to Portals/Portlets. I am getting a project based on Portals and Portlets within a month because of some re-shuffling in my office. I would like to know some good tutorials and e-books on this to start off with considering that i am a novice in this area. I have searched the net and narrowed it down to three books:
1. "Mastering IBM WebSphere Portal: Expert Guidance to Build and Deploy Portal Applications" by by Ron Ben-Natan, Richard Gornitsky, Tim Hanis, Ori Sasson.
and
2. "Programming Portlets: An Introduction Using IBM WebSphere Portal" by Ron Lynn, Joey Bernal, Peter Blinstrubas.
and
3. "IBM WebSphere Portal Primer: Second Edition" by Ashok Iyengar, Bruce Olson, Venkata Gadepalli.

Which of these would be good?

I just have to clear out my basics! So would like a beginners aspect of JSR168.

Some links would also be helpful.
Thanks!

My portlet programming book isn't on your list!

I like the Portal Primer book. It's pretty easy to follow. Plus, if you follow my signature links, I've got some free multimedia tutorials on developing portlets with Rational Application Developer. It might help you get started without having to spend any money.

Good luck! And ask lots of questions if you get stuck.

One question.... Are there any free tools to create Portals/Portlets? All i can see is RAD in every tutorial and its an expensive tool for starters like me.

JBoss Portal and Eclipse. I find Jboss the easiest one to integrate it to eclipse. There's also JetSpeed, but it takes more time...
