Australia is doing okay, but the market is relatively a lot smaller than US & UK.

I deem Estonia as the next big software industry after India.

Maybe he would move to Argentina if we told him that Argentina's software industry was doing well?

I heard from some of my friends that Haiti is poised for a major boom in infrastructure, including IT. The Haitian leadership has made up their mindset to treat the recent natural disaster as an opportunity, much like the great fire in London circa 1800, where the raging fire took care of the plague problem. It also swept away the housing and buildings, mostly wooden, which were build in close proximity, thus paving the way for a more planned township.

Haitian politicians have taken a similar view. With all the foreign aid pouring in, they can't miss.
Within the next 3 years, some foresee Haiti as the next emerging IT super power.

True- very likely, I'm tired of people posting on many forums including this - about how's Java/JEE market in US/UK. how's the salary for 20+ experienced, will I be paid more than James Gosling.
GOD, there's life beyond H1B's and HSMP's and offsite's and onsite's.

I heard the same thing. And the same source also told me that the Cubs are a shoe-in to win the next World Series, and that leisure suits are making a come back. Stay tuned!

I think it's a mindset problem - people chasing the money, not realizing that it is the wrong way to get to the money.

IMHO the best surgeons, pilots, software engineers, ... do their jobs because it is what they are passionate about, and don't really care about the money. However because of their passion, they become the best in their field, and they therefore get the big bucks.

Whereas those who are just trying to land a job (any job) that gives them lots of money are not passionate about the job (how can they be - it's just a job), and it shows in their work ethic and their skill sets. They do not become (to borrow Martin Fowler's phrase) Software Craftsmen. And so they do not reach the salaries that they are sure are out there, and don't realize why.

This is a theme that seems to come up time and time again.

As an official Die-Hard Cubs Fan I am heartened to hear this.

I've heard that Nunavut is experiencing a tech boom.

Same. I hate having to wear my "Just Wait til Next Year" T-shirt to every season opener.

Would that be Kugluktuk or Igloolik ? Seems they have innovative broadband (and licence plates) ... Was rather hoping somewhere like New Caledonia would have a booming tech market...

So the software industry should have had time to recover, yes?
