I am planning to appear for the SCWCD exam.. As per suggestions i have started reading the book Head First Servelets and JSP.. It is a wonderful book..
I am looking out for recommendations for all you knowledgeable people out there.. Any suggestion would be valuable and would help me in clearing the exams with flying colors.

Welcome to JavaRanch, Clarence,

You may have a look at ScwcdFaq, and ScwcdHints.
We have a separate forum for the discussions related to SCWCD. I'm moving this topic to there.

Hi there,

I would recommend, in addition to accessing the links and resources on this site (which are very good by the way) you to get the whizlabs product (EUR70 approx). it comes with sample exams (4 i think) and objective-wise testing sections. The answers it gives are very constructive and clear, i.e. it gives a description for why the answer is correct/incorrect and will refer to related specs.

I'm currently studying for the SCWCD and find it a great product. I bought it when i did my SCJP a few years back and found it really helped me also.

Best of luck - Ro

Hello ranchers,

Newbie here... I'm also planning on taking the SCWCD in the near future (actually I had given myself a deadline of Nov 30 which does not seem to be really practical given the erratic way I am preparing).

I have started on both books (Headfirst by Kathy sierra and the Manning book).. but recently started searching for David Bridgewater's book, I learnt that its more of a comprehensive kind of a book with the exam point of view... but I am unable to find a 310-083 version (i've seen it available last for 310-081). Is it necessary to give that book a scan?

I've been a standard kind of text book learner and the Headfirst throws me off balance.. I have prepared from their Exam guide for SCJP 1.4 but found that it was really not my style of reading/learning. I'm yet to try out the O'Reilly books (the more serious ones - they can get too technical). Are there any other suggestions? I'm more of a text book person.. and would really appreciate if you could point me towards the right book.

And yes, I resonate with Clarence in saying that :

"I am looking out for recommendations for all you knowledgeable people out there.. Any suggestion would be valuable and would help me in clearing the exams with flying colors. "

Hi Soujanya,

Welcome to the ranch!

but recently started searching for David Bridgewater's book, I learnt that its more of a comprehensive kind of a book with the exam point of view... but I am unable to find a 310-083 version (i've seen it available last for 310-081). Is it necessary to give that book a scan?

The Bridgewater book is only in the version of 310-081. The difference between the 081 and 083 exam is minimal as they cover the same specs so you can use the 081 book without any problem.

I have also used it and I was very happy with it. Apart from that book I would recommend the Enthuware mock exams and you will be good to go. I have made notes from the Bridgewater book add added the topics which where not there (have a look at the rancher notes in the ScwcdLinks)

Frits
