Hi,

I am planning to start preparing for the SCEA certification.
I believe I could get my company to send me to one of the required courses for this certification. I would like to choose the one that is likely to be most beneficial, but it is tricky to decide which one, as I feel that I would benefit from both. So out of those:

Object-Oriented Analysis and Design Using UML (OO-226)
Developing Architectures for Enterprise Java Applications (SL-425)

which would you recommend as the most useful with achieving the certification in mind?

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Katrin

For the certification, I think Developing Architectures for Enterprise Java Applications is more useful. It covers the trickier parts that rely on experience. OO design is easier to learn from books.

Thank you Jeanne, I will follow your advice. Fingers crossed that my company agrees to pay for it.

Hi Katrin,

We were lucky enough to have the courses SL-425 (Designing Architectures for Enterprise Java Applications) and SL-500 (Java EE Patterns) as part of our education program at work.

They are both very good courses, although Jeanne is right in that SL-425 is the most relevant (the course books alone are very valuable preparing for the exam).

Good luck!

Hi Jon & Jeanne,

I am from singapore & I registered for the course SL-425 (Designing Architectures for Enterprise Java Applications) with oracle university about 4 months back. Next week is my course. I understand from oracle university I would be the only participant for the course and no one else has registered for the course over last 4-6 months.

Does it imply the unpopularity of the course and the SCEA / OCMJEA certification.

Regards,
Karthickraj

Thanks for all your inputs.

I don't believe that the course is unpopular, I think the market for such course is rather small.

Regards
Katrin
