I just took the exam yesterday and got a 92%, which I guess is good. I feel very relaxed now. But my experience before that time was being rather nerves. When I came into the test I was also a bit nerves but then I was quite relaxed because I found that most of the questions to be from the mock exams on the net. There are lots of mock exams on the net and there's even one which is based upon some of the questions from people who took the exam. But I had some doubts with the answers so if anyone has a doubt they could check'em themselves or post it on javaranch and I'd be more than happy to reply. I could also send an email of the different mock exams I took, If requested by anyone.
As for the books I read they were in favorable order "A Programmers Guide to Java Certification, by Khalid and Rolf", "Java 2 Exam Cram by Bill" and "The Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide by Roberts, Heller and Ernest...the latter (Ernest) speaks about taking the developer certification, but I haven't read that part yet..". I think if you guys actually now the basics of java, and do those mock exams plus self practice, you'd have a good chance of not only passing but also getting a really high score. What I like about khalid's book is that in every chapter he went beyond the objectives to give a really good knowledge of java...it's not just another book and I highly recommend it!!
As for those who don't have any knowledge in java and programming languages I think they should read a different book then mentioned above. amazon.com provides excellent sources.
I'd personally like to thank the people in Java Ranch (i.e. ranch hands, green horns and unregistered participants) Dilip, youngrao, Rong Chen, sampaths77, Jane Griscti, srikrish, William Brogden, Aru and Paul A. "Thanks Paul for your hints but you weren't promoting spoon feeding..."
Well now I should be looking forward to taking a Developers certification or a Java Oracle Certification or some other one for professionals but I guess I'll have to investigate further to see which one has the better future. Anyone got some feedback on this ?
Thanks Again
Hi, I didn't expect to get so much replies so I modifying this message to include the mock exam links that I took. plus some more adive. Hope it's helpful guys.
1- If you go to www.javaprepare.com , and click the Link to your right which says "Other Certifications sites" You'll find links to the important mock exam siteswell they're important in my opinion.. plus this site provides a Sample Test too. I actually found the Java Ranch site which I think is the best site on the web for Java because of the services it provides from javaprepare.com.
2- Thanks allot to Aju Mathew which I saw in javaranch and gave me this very good
site " http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Orchard/9362/java/q_a/index.html "
with questions based upon the people who took the actual exam. But the answers to
these questions are not all correct so you should check'em. This link in my opinion is
a must. It helped me allot to take my Java Certification.
3- And also http://members.theglobe.com/apoddar/questions.html, think this link is in
JavaRanch, I also recommend the links to this site http://www.javaranch.com/maha/
Yes I did most of these links and got 92%.
4- Most of the links that have their own mock exams will provide other links to other mock exams. So what I do is go and check these links the same way I did in step 1to see if I've missed a mock exam. Actually taking all of them is really tiring that's why I didn't , it effected my self confidence because I wasn't getting complete scores and thought that they would never end. I was even flunking in them. Luckily after a while I felt more relaxed because I read from the net...can't remember wherethat the objectives of the mock exam is to teach you something you don't know and it's more than ordinary too flunk as long as you took notes where you flunked and remember them. I think like me he also took a good score maybe 90 or 92% don't remember. Another person who took 93% said that you should keep retaking them until you start scoring in the 90's but I don't agree with that and the best proof is me, right now I took 92%. I don't remember taking more than 90 in a mock exam and most of the time it was 60 - 75 % I also took less on occasions but I noted and EXPERIMENTED with the tricky and rare questions. It's also a good idea to experiment with the questions that you ask your selves in java. Also note that while you'll find lots of errors in mock exams. You shouldn't presume an error is there unless you prove it by using your java compiler, also note that although these errors are there, you can also find trick questions which you wouldn't expect and be a good piece of info for you.
That's all folks and Gook Luck. The Sun Exam is trickier than it is hard, just pay attention to the questions, pay attention to the questions, and I'll still repeat it if anyone needs me too. and don't just take my opinion. Also note that you get a good deal of check the correct comment questions. They're probably my weak point.
By the way, No you don't have to read the books I readpersonal opinion
And how long you need to prepare is not important, it's how you prepare.

Congratulations for your achievement!
SCJD should be logically your next step. The SCJP by itself can be considered a "lite" qualification because of its content. SCJD covers broader aspects of programming in Java and the exam includes an actual assignment. It is certainly more rewarding than SCJP and I feel you should go for it....

Good luck
Ajith
