I made a mistake in my first try. So, I will give it a try again.
I don't think the frequency is a major factor for any electical system. When you buy electrical instruments, the electricity usage will be specified in Watts(Power). That is the key.
Say, you have a computer which takes 110V - 4Amps Current, the power consumption is Power (P) = Voltage (V) * Current (Amps).
P = V * I = 110 * 4 = 440watts. Your computer expects 440Watts power. So, when you go to oversees, and if they use 220V, ask any electroics shop keeps to give you a 110V - 440 watts "step down" adapter/transformer.
This is what I was told. I am also curious to know whether what I was told is right or not.
Did you check your laptop? I have seen switchable (110-220V) power supplies for Desktops. See whether you can find such a switch in your laptop.
