Alternatives to HttpClient?

I really like Jakarta Commons HttpClient for generating HTTP requests from Java code, but I'm running up against some of its limitations.

Is there any other good alternative that y'all are using out there?

That's what I use, too. Are these limitations something you can work on yourself, given that the source code is available?

I wrote my own, mostly because there weren't any libraries when I needed it back in last century.

What limitations in particular?

The limitation is what I'm asking about here; the inability to pass a request body on a GET.
