I'm willing to make an assumption here.

The difference is $4,280 in the base price, for a 3.5-liter (306 HP) engine vs. a 2.5-liter (204 HP) engine. (Also, I think the 350 is only available as rear-wheel drive, so that's not for you. If you're in this market, try a Volvo S40.)

Well, I was wrong. I thought you meant the Lexus IS 250 and 350, which I thought made sense because the Lexus site does not do a good job at differentiating between these. But given the electric fence and all, maybe I should have known.

Sorry, I don't know anything about pickups.

you'd think a 1/4 ton would be a good answer, well okay it IS a good answer, just not an accurate answer...

Anyway, I used to think that 350s were somehow much beefier than 250s - bigger engines, heavier frames, and so on... it turns out that the only difference is that 350s have bigger springs over the rear axle so that they can have bigger payloads...

And the other difference is that...as of about 3 hours ago...

We got ourselves a 350 - woo-hoo! Now we can take our horses for rides as opposed to it always being the other way around

Well, US trucks have simple 'capacity' ratings.
Depending on brand and age, they add or subtract a zero or two.

In the beginning, a Ford F100 was a "quarter ton" pickup.
a F250 was a "half ton" and a F350 was a "three quarter ton" truck.

Chevy's were called C10, C25 and C35
Dodges were, wait for it, D1000, D2500 and D3500.

This was supposed to reflect net capacity, since the empty truck weighed at least a ton, and more recently nearly two.

Along the way, the numbers got fuzzy. Ford made a F150 in the late 1970s to work arround some smog rules, the F100 was a "light truck" and subject to smog rules, the F150 was "heavier" to carry more, but mostly to avoid the legal stuff.

If you compare a F150 against a F250 you will see heavier frame, stronger wheels, bigger brakes, etc. Same between F250 and F350, heavier, stronger, etc.

Then, the marketing guys got into it, and invented "super duty" trucks that were mostly the same but could carry/tow more. And they invented F550 trucks, which can be made into dump trucks.

After that, it gets confusing.

Congratulations! Sounds more fun than a Lexus anyway.

for anyone who is still confused, normally we jump on our horses and they take us for a ride - now, we can load them in the trailer and pull them with our f350, and take THEM for a ride
