i have been to www.sun.java.com but there are so many different download packages and options can someone tell me exactly what to download in order to get started with programming, i have purchased Head First Java by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates and they reccmonded this site, please help

install JDK 6 Update 21 (JDK or JRE) is Out

this is the jdk if you want to do programming in the notepad it is enough but if you need some environment you can download that too

I got this one, and it worked so I'm guessing it's the right one.
