Firstly its OCPJP (Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer). The latest one as per my knowledge is for Java 7, but for Java 7 you need to first appear for the Associate exam i.e OCAJP and then you can appear for OCPJP 7. As far as Java 6 is concerned you can directly appear for OCPJP 6 i.e. no need of giving the Associate exam and then you can give an upgrade exam for Java 7, if you feel. Both Java 6 and Java 7 has values.

2. Is OCJP really Valued in companies ? Does salary affects if you are an OCJP certified ? company prefers OCJP people ?

Don't know. Some people give importance to this exam and some doesn't because we all know exam can be cleared in many ways say for example by rote learning etc. So we can't say that an certification really shows your Java skills. I am not against certification and its good to have a Java certificate but i am just telling that different people have different views i.e. some considers it excellent and some as OK OK type.

3. Which book You referred to ? how much time did it take overall ??

4. Nay website for ONline tests and other help ?

Refer these pages for more details here and here

6. I just read that for OCJP 7 i have to be OCJP 6 certified ? is it ?

No for OCPJP 7 you need to be OCAJP 7 as said earlier.

And welcome to Ranch!!!

Yes everything's fine with that.

Since you are referring the K&B Java 6 books, see what Bert Bates says about how to prepare for OCAJP 7 using the K&B Java 6 book.

Also there are some books for the Associate exam of Java 7 which are available (or will be available in short time). You can see about them here and here

am i going wrong anywhere ???

I don't think so, but its always good that you take advice personally from your seniors, professors etc.

which OCPJP exam have you given ??

I have no certifications under my belt.

A book doesn't define any exam.If you have any doubt then first read some posts on site.

Who said that. There are certain books which are specially made for certification, for example here, which the OP was referring and the link which you had in your answer is nothing but Bert Bates suggesting how to use the K&B Java 6 book for OCAJP 7 exam.

FYI there is no book available for OCA7 neither OCPJP 7 so i told him alternative.A book doesn't exist it is not mean exam depend on a book.He can get syllabus from oracle site and then can learn those topics from any source.

And i found there are many rancher using java tutorials and got pass without any certification book.
