Well, regarding the Java IO library, that's the IO stream / reader / writer stuff that
you should already know.
The NIO library adds ByteBuffer (working in blocks, data type translation, direct access to memory, and usage of mmap files), asynchronous IO, channel selector (select, poll, etc. equivalent), etc. For the majority of applications, these features are not needed.
