The examples have been kept as simple as possible. This perhaps does not fulfil your need to get a more in-depth knowledge of certain patterns, but that was not our book's main rationale.
The book is intended for Java programmers who have had little exposure to patterns and to help them understand that patterns are not frightning and complex beings, but that they are already using many of them. It is my personal belief that patterns do not need to be complex, they actually have to be kept as simple as possible.
If the example seems superfluous to you, you may perhaps have a good understanding of this pattern.
