The class JavaDoc:java.lang.String is one of the most fundamental classes in the Java API. Double-quoted literal character strings are actually instances of this class.

Various aspects of the string class have been discussed in our forums:

  • Converting a String array into an ArrayList
  • Journal Article: The SCJP Tip Line, Strings, Literally, by Corey McGlone. All about Strings, immutability and the String pool. Also, a thread discussing that article.
  • String, StringBuilder and StringBuffer compared
  • When (if ever) to use the 'new String()'?
