Personally, I mostly use pen and paper and whiteboards. But then we use UML mostly in "just in time" design discussions.

I also recently tried Relo, which looks nice for exploring existing code.

Of course, you might need to draw some fancy diagrams to present to management, or you might want to generate source code from the diagrams, or a dozens of other things. And for all those things, different tools are suitable.

So, what again do you want to do?

I recommend JUDE Uml.

Free tool, simple to use, does'nt look "fancy" - but works very nicely imho.
