Great position available with an exciting company in the entertainment industry. It is located in Culver City (Greater LA area, south of LA near the coast) Wonderful company with excellent benefits including 401K, medical, vision and dental insurance, employee stock purchase plan, profit sharing, Direct Deposit and more. Full time permanent position. US citizenship or green card required. Salary 85K+.
The purpose for this position is to analyze, design, and develop software solutions for a media-rich infrastructure. Responsibilities include working closely with a team of professionals in program management and quality assurance to devise and implement solutions, contribute to development plans and schedules, and provide technical guidance to other members of the team.
Duties: Assists program management with gathering and discovery of requirements.
1. Assists architects in development of system architecture and design.
2. Provides accurate and detailed project schedules and milestones to management.
3. Provides expert consultation to program management on technical issues.
4. Develops flexible and efficient designs, based on object-oriented design (OOD) principles and best practices (e.g., Design Patterns), which are tailored to the system architecture and are based on product requirements.
5. Promotes and follows software engineering best practices including all phases of the software lifecycle and development of appropriate artifacts (e.g., functional specifications, diagrams, etc.) necessary to understand the designs.
6. Develops code based on the designs laid out in the functional specifications and which conform to software coding best practices, including unit testing.
7. Demonstrates fluency in one or more major object-oriented programming languages (i.e., Java or C++) and the capability to learn other programming languages as necessary.
8. Demonstrates fluency in developing systems and networking software (e.g., sockets, inter-process communication, network protocols, multi-process/multi-threaded programming) on Unix and/or Windows platforms in a client/server or three-tier environment.
9. Assists Quality Assurance (QA) engineers in developing and reviewing test plans.
10. Coaches less experienced engineering staff in the practice of software development.
11. Holds and participates in design and code reviews as a major contributor.
Experience, Education, and Training
Five or more years experience in design and development of object-oriented software. BSCS or equivalent experience.
Besides fulfilling essential job functions, principal software engineers are generally specialists in a particular area of software development (e.g., Web development, distributed development, enterprise development, 3D graphics, etc.). They will typically have extensive expertise and knowledge in this area.
Desirable experience includes:
� Java 2 (preferably Enterprise Edition, i.e. J2EE), Oracle 8i, XML, and servlets.
� Industry standard web application servers, components, & services, such as: Dynamo, Vignette, Cold Fusion, Interwoven, Accrue, E.piphany, CyberCash, etc.
� Web session management, transaction servers, personalization, privacy, B2C, and web advertising.
� Integrating community applications: e-mail, chat, etc.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director of Software Engineering, SPDE.
