VB.Net, VS.Net, all of the other major ide's for varying languages have books coming out of the gazoo...will we ever see an increase in books for Eclipse that will familiarize new users with it's feature set and possibilites.

I doubt that there will be as big an explosion as for the .NET stuff.
First of all, we already have some books out there, and secondly, the Java community somehow seems more loosely coupled from any particular IDE...

I've been seeing an increase in books about Eclipse, at various levels. I suspect this will continue as Eclipse seems to be gaining mindshare all the time. I haven't read any of these, but it sounds like for a new user, your best options currently available are:
Eclipse: Step By Step
The Java Developer's Guide to Eclipse
Eclipse in Action: A Guide for the Java Developer
My impression from the reviews is that Step by Step is more basic than the other two, which may be good or bad depending on your perspective. I'd recommend going to a local bookstore and paging through each one to see which suits you best. (Of course you can also do this at Amazon to some extent.) Enjoy...

Another book to add to the list:
Contributing to Eclipse: Principles, Patterns, and Plugins
(Try this URLif you are a Brit like myself).
by this week's guest authors Kent Beck and Erich Gamma (yes really).
This mail if of course a blatant attempt to get hold of one of the free copies in the JavaRanch promotion.

A lot of it will have to do with how the current crop of books sell. If they sell well, publishers will push to publish more books on Eclipse.

[Mike Evans]: Another book to add to the list:
Ah, no. The original question was:
[Rex]: will we ever see an increase in books for Eclipse that will familiarize new users with it's feature set and possibilites.
I would submit that Beck & Gamma's book on how to extend Eclipse most likely is not suitable as an introduction for new users who simply wish to learn how to use Eclipse.

This is correct - the focus of our book is about the fun of extending eclipse.

I stand corrected.
