Thanks in advance..!

Eclipse 3 requires JDK1.4.*, so you'll need to upgrade.

Hello All,

I have j2sdk1.4.2_03 and I verified JAVA_HOME is set to it. I am still getting this error when I try to launch eclipse 3.0.

The funny part is I had been working on 3.0 for more than a week now and I installed oracle client today and from then on I am not able to launch eclipse.

Can anybody help?

Thanks,

Rave.

Fixed it partly....

In the shortcut to launch eclipse, I added the java_home\bin\java.exe and it worked.

Although it launches eclipse it also starts a dos window and I hate that. Anybody knows a workaround? Why is it not able to read the path? I verified the path and there are no spaces or hypens or weird stuff like that.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rave.

"Rave",

We're pleased to have you here with us in the IDEs forum, but there are a few rules that need to be followed, and one is that proper names are required. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Thanks,
Jeanne

I'm having the same problem after installing Oracle client. I just removed the Oracle client, and now I'm getting different error:

JVM terminated. Exit code=3
C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin\javaw.exe
....

so on. I'm using Eclipse 3.0, Win XP pro, Java 1.4.2_04. It looks like Oracle client messed up something. I'll post follow up if I fix this. Btw, re-installing eclipse did not help.

Hello Keith/Kim,
Please check your path statement. It looks like Oracle Client installs a previous version of JRE and puts it ahead of the JDK in your PATH environment variable. Once you reset it, you should be fine. Off course, whether your Oracle Client works fine or not is yet another story.
Regards.

Tried a few things and it finally worked. To be honest, I'm not sure what fixed this problem since I tried a few things. Here is what I did:

Uninstalling and reinstalling JSDK didn't help. Restarting didn't either. I uninstalled Oracle client and its installer. Didn't help either. And then removed some entries from registry:

key=
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Environment
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Control\Session Manager\Environment

Both of them had "C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin;......" in Path value. I only removed this oracle jre portion. And then logged out, and logged back in as local machine Administrator, executed the same eclipse copy. And it worked! So I logged out and logged back in as a normal user, and started eclipse, and it worked, except it ask for workspace location again, and complained that it can't load layout. But after that everything is back to normal.

So, try to log on as Administrator and run eclipse, and then log back on as a normal user and run it. If that doesn't work, remove the registry keys I removed. (But I'm not responsible for anything...) And if it still doesn't work, do the things that I did in reverse.

Good luck.

Here is the Answer from the Eclipse Bugzilla database.
Eclipse Bugzilla entry 29199

The answer is the same for Oracle 9i.

Add the -vm option to the call for Eclipse.exe, i.e.:
C:\Apps\Eclipse\Eclipse.exe -vm C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\javaw.exe

Then, all is right in the world.
