Having spent several days on configuring Eclipse + Lomboz + Tomcat, but still can't get them work together properly. Sometimes it complains that it cannot open the JSP editor, while sometimes it argues that some classes cannot be instantiated etc. I think I have done all necessary steps correctly, that is:

1) Extracting Eclipse
2) Extracting EMF runtime to Eclipse
3) Extracting Lomboz to Eclipse
4) Configure parameters for Lomboz

And I have also tried the following combinations:

1) Eclipse 3.0 + EMF 2.0 + Lomboz 3.0 + Tomcat 4.1 + JDK 1.4.2
2) Eclipse 3.1M6 + EMF 2.1 + Lomboz 3.1 + Tomcat 5.5 + JDK 1.5
3) Eclipse 3.1M6 + EMF 2.0 + Lomboz 3.1 + Tomcat 5.5 + JDK 1.5

Also, I am referencing the following web sites to do the configuration:

1) http://weblogs.asp.net/jdanforth/articles/149111.aspx
2) http://hyh.mis.dwu.edu.tw/jsp/eclipse.htm
3) http://www.javaworld.com.tw/jute/post/view?bid=10&id=60505&sty=3&tpg=1&age=0

I don't care whether Lomboz can start/stop Tomcat within Eclipse for me as I am very happy using Sysdeo's Tomcat Plugin, but I just eager to use the JSP editing/code assist features of Lomboz.

Does anyone has a complete step-by-step guide that depicts how to setup Lomboz + Eclipse? Or is there any FREE Eclipse plugin (I mean truely free, not free trial like M7 JSP editor) that possesses JSP editing/code assist function?

Thank you very much.

Hi,

Please try this tutorial.

http://www.tusc.com.au/tutorial/html/chap1.html

It worked for me with eclipse2.1 and lomboz2.1 as well as eclipse3.0+lomboz3.0+jboss . With tomcat i think the only difference is the .server file

Thanks Ambily.

Finally, I can make Eclipse, Lomboz and Tomcat work together successfully. The problem is due to the version of Eclipse I am using (Version 3.0.0). After I have change it to version 3.0.2 and install all suitable version of Eclipse tools (EMF/SDO, XSD, GEF, VE, JEM), and then download Lomboz 3.0.1, the problem has been solved.

For users trying to configure Eclipse 3.1 & Lomboz 3.1, I find someone replied in a forum says that as Eclipse 3.1 is still in milestone stage, so it may have some bugs and unstable, so we are better to wait Lomboz for a updated release or a new milestone release of Eclipse 3.1.

For others who are suffering the same problem with me, I list the version of all components needed for your reference:

1) Eclipse 3.0.2
2) EMF/SDO 2.0.2
3) XSD 2.0.2
4) GEF 3.0.1
5) VE 1.0.2
6) JEM 1.0.2
7) Lomboz 3.0.1.N20050106
8) Tomcat 5.5.7

Hello Taka,

if you create a servlet will it register in web.xml. I tried a similar installation though using different versions but when it comes to creating a servlet, it does not describe the servlet in the web.xml unlike in my 212 installation.

I have tried to create a servlet using the "Lomboz Servlet Wizard" and it works as expected. The web.xml has been updated with essential <servlet> and <servlet-mapping> entries.
